Visit the Castle of St. Peter
The Castle of St. Peter towers over the seafront and is a must-see for everyone who visits Bodrum. Various knights of the order were assigned to defend specific sections of the walls between 1402 and 1437, during the construction of the structure. There are several towers here, including the French Tower, the English Tower, which has a sculpted lion on its west wall, and the Gatineau Tower. A mosque was built inside the castle during the reign of the Ottoman sultan Suleyman the Magnificent. Several of the vast halls inside the castle display exhibits from the Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum
Museum of Underwater Archaeology
No matter if you're interested in underwater archaeology or not, this incredible museum is a must-see. In the upper level of the castle, exhibits are displayed in various halls that have been recently reorganized and renovated. Hailing from underwater discoveries the artefacts and excavations from the coast of the Bodrum Peninsula are displayed here complimented by interactive multimedia presentations. A Byzantine ship which sunk in 1026 along with its cargo including amphare and glass artefacts are artfully displayed within the museums exhibitions. A huge collection of Greek amphorae, items unearthed from a Mycenaean-era necropolis close to Ortakent on the peninsula and artefacts found in various Bronze Age shipwrecks are also on show in other halls. Time to unearth the past!
See the Scant Remains of One of the Ancient Seven Wonders
This mound of ancient marble and debris may not seem like much today—you may need to put your see into the past goggles on—because it was once one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Pytheos, an architect, constructed the Mausoleum of Mausolus in Halicarnassus, which was the old name for Bodrum, to serve as the monarch's final resting place (376-353 BC).The Knights Hospitallers, who utilised its stones to construct the Castle of St. Peter, were the ones who finally destroyed it despite decades of earthquake damage.
Even simply to claim you've visited one of the seven ancient marvels is reason enough to visit the current site, which is located in a tranquil garden setting.
